People we serve in Nepal

People we serve in Nepal (PWS)
The project will be implemented by AMDA Nepal project team stationed at AMDA Hospital, Damak municipality. AMDA Nepal has been working with Bhutanese refugees for the past 21 years as a partner organization of UNHCR. AMDA directly implemented its activities since 2001 to 2020 in different settlements & the surrounding host community. In 2022; 2023 and 2024 AMDA implemented its activities through settlement-based refugee organizations like the Settlement Management Committees (SMCs), the Bhutanese Refugee Women Forum (BRWF), the Bhutanese Refugee Children Forum (BRCF) & the Bhutanese Refugee Association for the Disabled (BRAD). Before designing this project AMDA consulted with different layers of the Bhutanese Refugee communities through the CBO’s & SMCs.  AMDA assessed the community needs through its activities implemented in 2024 and, based on the implemented activities of 2024, AMDA designed the project for 2025. In 2023 AMDA conducted a medical screening in both settlements where 44 PWD (Persons with disabilities) in Sanischare settlement &159 PWD in Beldangi Settlement, 44 Chronic disease patients (18- Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA), 22- heart disease, 8- kidney disease and 1- Cancer) and 51 – mental health patients were identified and high priority was given to this when designing the project for 2025. AMDA staff will be stationed at AMDA Hospital, Project office covering the settlements at the entry points of the Hospitals for individuals with health insurance, (AMDA hospital, BPKIHS, Koshi Zonal Hospital and others). AMDA will also monitor new birth registration of those born in the settlements in the respective ward offices/SMC office at camp level. AMDA will ensure the inclusion of refugees to extend the benefits of six chronic diseases within the national program. Additionally, AMDA will assist in obtaining certificates issued at the local level by ward level for refugees with disabilities. In the settlements, AMDA will closely monitor the mortality and morbidity of the refugee population and strengthen community-based health programs for disease prevention, identification of cases and early referral to health facilities. AMDA will also monitor the day-to-day activities of the CBO’s & SMC’s of both settlements with the aim of developing their capacity. The project will address the key priorities by building and strengthening community ownership and increasing access to quality and non-discriminatory health, education and social services through lobbying and collaboration with governments at all levels and other stakeholders. The Project will advocate for an intersectional approach that considers gender, age, and diversity, ensuring sensitivity and accountability to the target population. The project will further strengthen its community feedback and complaint response mechanism (CRM) by organizing periodic meetings, focus group discussions, key informant interviews; and conducting a refresher on CRM, for staff, volunteers and CBO representatives. The target population will be made aware of the CRM and encouraged to submit their grievances through this mechanism.
