AMDA Institute of Health Science, Damak
AMDA Nepal established AMDA Health Manpower Development Center under AMDA Hospital with the approval of the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) to prepare middle-level health human resources in 1996. In the beginning, Technical School Leveling Certificate (TSLC) level programs: Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), and Medical Lab Technology (Lab Assistant) were launched. In 1997, Community Medical Assistant (CMA) course was added.
Similarly, in 2008, the Proficiency Certificate Level/Diploma Level Nursing (Staff Nurse) program started.
In 2012, AMDA Health Manpower Development Center was renamed as AMDA Institute of Health Science (AIHS).
In the academic session 2012, the CTEVT recognized AIHS as the best institution in the Eastern Development Region on its 26th anniversary.
In 2018, the Proficiency Certificate Level/Diploma Level in General Medicine Program (HA) has been launched. Likewise, in 2022 Technical School Leveling Certificate (TSLC) level programs [Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), Medical Lab Technology (Lab Assistant), and Community Medical Assistant (CMA)] are upgraded to Proficiency Certificate Level/Diploma Level of Medical Lab Technology (Lab Tech.), Radiography, and Physiotherapy.
AIHS students get exposure to AMDA hospital, Zonal hospital, District hospital, Primary Health Care centers, Health Posts, and other health service providers of Province-1. The students get on-the-job training (OJT) in and around Damak to promote community health.
AIHS has own academic building and well eqippted library and labotaroty set-up. Infrastructure has been developed to meet the national standard. The training block was constructed with the support of Embassy of Japan in 2005.
Progress Report/Features
Provision of "HIROMORI" Scholarship to socially and economically underprivileged students every year.
100% PCL nursing students secured distinction (more than 80% marks) in the final board exam conducted by CTEVT.
Every year 200 students are enrolled in the course: 40 in Staff Nurse, 40 in General Medicine, 40 in ANM, 40 in CMA and 40 in Lab.
Tuition fee and other expenses are economic compared to other similar institution.
Adequate exposure for students in its own hospital and PHCs.
Well set-up "KANAGAWA" library, resource room, practical facility and spacious class rooms.
Qualified and well trained trainers are involved for teaching.
Provided 100% scholarship to the students from marginalized community (supported by UNWFP, UNHCR).
Conducted additional academic programs to the referred student from the Nepal government.
